Ngo Hiang

Bukit Merah Central Wu Xiang Shrimp Cake serves an assortment of ngo hiang pieces and fried mee hoon. Above is with ngo hiang, crispy prawn crackers, prawn cake, egg roll and teochew fish cake.

The ngo hiang has a light crispy skin wrapping a soft and flavourful filling, and I can actually taste yam and crunchy bits of water chestnut. The crispy prawn cracker has a crispy flour batter and crispy bits of shrimps. The prawn cake likewise has crispy prawns on a soft fried batter. These are all rather likeable.

The egg roll is crispy outside with soft fish paste filling inside, The teochew fish cake has tiny bits of chilli and chopped spring onions within its fish paste. It is soft and has nice savoury flavours. These two are quite decent.

A bowl of sweet sauce and a bowl of chilli sauce are provided on the side. The sweet sauce is starchy and has a very light tone of sweetness. The chilli is spicy with underlying soft notes of sweet and limey. Both pairs well with the ngo hiang pieces.

Fried Mee Hoon

Fried mee hoon is also available as an extra to go along with the ngo hiang. The fried mee hoon contains some bean sprouts and garlic bits. It has a nice dry texture and a very mild sweet taste. It is nice.
