Fried Hokkien Mee

Old Hup Kee dishes out fried hokkien mee featuring a combination of prawns, sotong and pork belly. A mixture of yellow noodles and mee hoon is wok fried with eggs and bean sprouts. It is simmered in a flavourful broth resulting in a dish with somewhat wet texture. It is springy and very flavourful.

The prawns are of decent size and taste fairly fresh, while the sotong is firm and chewy. The slices of pork belly is firm and meaty with some soft fatty parts. Accompanying the fried hokkien mee is a piece of green lime and a very limey and spicy chilli paste. An optional sweet tasting sambal is also available, which compliments the dish really well.

This plate of fried hokkien mee is satisfying good!

Fried Kway Teow

Old Hup Kee also offers fried kway teow containing see hum, fish cake and lap cheong. A mixture of kway teow and yellow noodles is wok fried with egg, some bean sprouts, along with a dash of sweet black sauce. This results in a fried kway teow with a nice dry texture, and a pleasant smoky taste of wok hei, and slight hint of sweetness.

The fish cake is firm and springy, while the lap cheong is soft and slightly sweet. The see hum is a decent size and tastes decent too. Notably, there is no pork lard used in this fried kway teow.

Overall, this fried kway teow tastes nice and is a highly likable.

Fried Carrot Cake

This fried carrot cake has a nice fragrant scent! It uses firm and springy cubes of radish cake pan fried with eggs.

The white version of the fried carrot cake is done flat pancake style with a slightly crispy egg coating. Meanwhile, the black version has sweet black sauce added. giving it a mildly sweet taste. The black version also has subtle charring that adds a hint of smoky flavour. Both versions of the fried carrot cake are enjoyable.
