Char Siew & Siu Yuk

Hong Kong Jin Tian Roast Meat is a siu mei stall formerly from Tiong Bahru. The stall owners were originally from Hong Kong and serves Hong Kong style siu mei. Shown here is their char siew, siu yuk rice. It comes with a light ikan bilis flavoured soup on the side.
The char siew is rather lean, decently tender, isn’t sweet and has a slight smokey taste. Likewise for the siu yuk, it has a slightly smokey taste with crispy skin, meaty moist meat and not salty at all. Both are decent, though I like the roast pork more as I’m not exactly huge on lean meat char siew.
The char siew and siu yuk slices are served on a plate of rice with braised sauce added. Instead of having cucumber slices, a piece of boiled vegetable is served with the rice – very Hong Kong style. Totally reminds me of the siu mei rice back in Hong Kong.
