Nasi Lemak

Mui Zai Nasi Lemak offers a few nasi lemak sets with varying mains and sides. The set featured above, includes fried chicken wing, fried egg, otah and ikan bilis peanuts. The begedil is an optional add-on.

The nasi lemak rice has a firm texture and a very subtle flavour that is almost non-existent. The fried chicken wing has a mildly crispy lightly coated batter, is moist and meaty, and tastes savoury. The fried egg has soft runny yolk and soft whites. The otah is the small type, with a rather firm paste that is spicy and has a distinctive fish taste. The ikan bilis is crisy and savoury, while the peanuts is crunchy. The begedil, an optional extra, has a soft and soggy potato filling with bits of sping onion and meat. Its fried egg coating is soft and lacks crispiness. Unfortunately, the begedil falls short.

On the side, the nasi lemak comes with a serving of crispy fried vegetable leaves, a few slices of cucumber and a dollop of slightly sweet tasting chilli paste.

Overall, this nasi lemak does not tastes bad per se, it is just rather unremarkable and ordinary.
