Lor Mee

Shun Li Ah Ma Lor Mee does really good lor mee with quite an assortment of ingredients included, with a choice of yellow noodles or mee hoon. For the hungry ones, it is good to know that you can request to have a larger portion of noodles without any extra charges.

This lor mee has a wonderfully delicious braised sauce that isn’t overly starchy and thick. It has very distinctive flavours and a nice mild sweet taste. Stacked on top of this braised sauce filled bowl of noodles are: fried ngo hiang slices, pork belly slices, a fish meat nugget, half a braised egg and a handful of fried crispy flour, with a scoop of garlic and sambal chilli on the side.

The ngo hiang slices are crispy outside, soft inside with nice flavours. The pork belly is just slightly fatty inside with tender and moist meat. Best of all, it isn’t salty. I can actually taste the juicy pork meat flavours. As for the fried fish nugget, it is fluffy and crispy outside, soft and airy inside. It is really good. I would love to have extras just to snack on. I am actually quite surprised with the braised egg, you can actually taste braised sauce flavourings. Very nice!

There is also a handful of fried crispy flour added to the bowl. Its crispiness contrasts very well with the softness of the yellow noodles, giving the noodles some crunch with every bite. Let’s not ignore an important sidekick, the sambal chilli. It tastes very nicely of dried shrimps with a mildly sweet taste. Its tastes blends in very well with the flavourings of the lor mee. Go for an extra scoop, it is good.

This is a really satisfying bowl of lor mee. Definitely good, and perhaps one of the best in Singapore. Highly recommended.
