Wei Dao Si Chao Big Prawn Noodle

serves up a quartet of fried dishes and a variety of prawn noodles. Only the Penang fried kway teow tastes nice, while the rest of the dishes are merely ordinary.

Penang Fried Kway Teow

The penang fried kway teow consists of kway teow that is wok fried with egg, bean sprouts, spring onions, fish cake slices and prawns. The fish cake has a soft and smooth texture, and pleasing fish flavours. The prawns are of decent size and tastes satisfactory. As for the fried kway teow itself, it is quite nicely flavoured with subtle undertones of wok hei. Tastes nice.

Fried Hokkien Mee

The fried hokkien mee is cooked using a mixture of yellow noodles and mee hoon, wok fried with eggs, bean sprouts and spring onions, and simmered in a broth. Prawns and slices of sotong are included in the dish.

The fried hokkien mee is moist with its noodles a bit too soft. It has a light note of smokiness and tastes decent. The sotong slices are fairly soft, and the prawns are decent. A mala tasting chilli paste and a piece of green lime are provided on the side.

This plate of fried hokkien mee tastes alright.

Fried Carrot Cake

The fried carrot cake is available in the usual white and black versions.

The white version of fried carrot cake uses soft radish cake cubes pan fried with eggs and chye poh. The egg coating is mostly soft with just some slightly crispy edges. It has a nice savoury taste. An optional chilli can be added to the side.

The black version of fried carrot cake uses the same soft and springy radish cake cubes wok fried with egg and added black sauce. It is very mildly crispy and it has a strong smoky and burnt taste.

Both versions of fried carrot cake tastes rather ordinary.

Fried Oyster Omelette

The fried oyster omelette is soft and sticky, with absolutely no crispiness. It contains plump oysters and chopped spring onions. The dish is served with a garlicky and limey chilli dip, that is simiar to the ones used for hainanese chicken rice and is a poor match. Do not waste your stomach space on this.

Prawn Mee

Wei Dao Si Chao Big Prawn Noodle serves prawn noodles as well. As seen above, is the soup version of prawn mee featuring yellow noodles with slices of pork and prawn slices.

The yellow noodles are cooked with a softer texture. The noodles includes some bean sprouts and spring onions. The pork is firm and meaty, while the prawns are decent. The bowl of soup is decently flavoured, and the prawn mee comes served topped with some fried shallots.

This prawn mee tastes decent.
