Braised Duck Rice

Tian Braised Duck Kway Chap sells braised duck and kway chap. Shown here is their braised duck rice set which comes with boneless braised duck, braised tofu, braised egg, braised peanuts and yam rice with a bowl of soup and chilli served on the side. The portions are generous.

The braised duck is deboned. The meat is moist and quite tender with nice soft skin. Flavours are a bit bland though. Likewise, the tofu and egg has mild braised flavours. The braised peanuts are nice and soft too. The highlight is its rice, yam rice. It is fragrant with nice flavours and contains bits of yam. It is a nice surprise and is something that is not that commonly found anymore.

The accompany bowl of soup is lightly flavoured with mild braised taste and a very faint hint of herbs. The sambal chilli is yet another star here. It is spicy and tastes of dried shrimps and contains real ikan bilis. Mixes very well with everything from duck and rice to tofu and egg. Remember to take an extra scoop of this tasty chilli.

This is a very likeable plate of braised duck rice that is almost worth 1 star goodness, if only its braising flavours are a bit more colourful. The yam rice and sambal chilli are both lovely.
