Washoku Goen

offers japanese curry rice, ramen and udon, served with a selection of meats. Pretty unremarkable.

Washoku Goen serves japanese curry rice with a choice of deep fried meats. An optional omelette can also be added.

The chicken cutlet is soft and meaty, while the pork katsu is firm and equally meaty. Both meats have well-marinated flavours and are moist. They are coated in a thick breaded crust that is deep-fried to a golden crisp, but the crust is rather oily. Likewise, the fish fillet has a crispy breaded crust covering its soft and savoury-tasting meat. The crab cream croquette has a soft and creamy filling within its thick crispy breaded crust. Although all four options are quite decent for local standards, they come nothing close to the ones in Japan.

The rice is firm and slightly sticky, while the curry sauce is mildly spicy with a subtle hint of sweetness. The curry sauce also contains some soft potato bits, and the optional egg omelette is soft.

Overall, the japanese curry rice tastes just alright.

The kake ramen, as shown above, has its ramen served in a light soya sauce flavoured soup along with a slice of char siew and a serving of seaweed.

The ramen is firm and springy, and the seaweed is crunchy. The slice of japanese style char siew is thick, firm and meaty with some soft fatty parts. Unfortunately, it is a rather poor imitation of japanese char siew which is typically thinly sliced and melts in your mouth. This bowl of ramen is quite mediocre in my opinion.

The beef udon features savoury-tasting beef slices that are soft and meaty. The udon is firm and springy, the seaweed is crunchy, and the soup tastes alright. This serving of beef udon is definitely better than their ramen, and can be considered a fairly decent option. However, it is a far cry from the ones in Japan.
