Review: Tsubame Donut (Fukuoka, Japan)

Tsubame Donut: Sugar, Lemon, Wasanbon

Tsubame Donut

makes donuts using japanese soya bean flour and fried with japanese rice cooking oil. Over 20 flavours available on rotation. Several outlets in Fukuoka.

This donut has a firm texture and sponge-like insides. It has nice lemony flavours and a slightly sweet taste. It is coated with a layer of crunchy grated coconut and a slice of dried lemon tops it off. The lemon donut is nice.

This donut is coated with wasanbon (japanese brown sugar). Soft and chewy with a nice sweet taste. Not overly sweet either. The amazing part, the sugar powder seems to cling onto the donut and not falling off. This donut is nice too.

The sugar donut uses sugar icing instead of sugar powder. Soft dough that is slightly firm and chewy with a nice sweet taste that isn’t overpowering. Quite likeable.
